Why Your Voice Matters
The mission is built for young people and led by young people. Our community needs these perspectives to shape real change, raise awareness on these important issues, and overall advocate for the rights and needs of young people in our community.
What Members Do
As a member you'll work with others to plan outreach activities, create/participate in events that highlight youth human rights issues and participate in discussions about community needs. Members collaborate with each other and with supportive adult supervisors to make sure that youth perspectives are always being reflected.
What You Can Expect
Members can expect a welcoming environment where everyone's contributions are valued. Meetings are held on a regular schedule and they are designed to be flexible. Members will take on leadership roles, help shape projects, and learn skills such advocacy and teamwork. You will gain experience that can be included on resumes and college application. You also get to be part of something meaningful.
Who Can Join
Youth ages 14-21 from anywhere in Humboldt County are eligible to join as members of the commission. No previous experience needed, just an interest in human rights or supporting your community. The commission encourages participation from youth of all background and identities, and strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable We also welcome members of the public who want to serve in advisory or committee roles.
